The management of Expanded Global Industries Limited, Ibadan, on Saturday, indicated its decision to compensate the family of the late Gbadebo Richard, a 300-level student of the University of Ibadan who died in a factory accident on Tuesday.

Expanded Global Industries Limited is a sister company to Henkel Global where the deceased was working until he accidentally got killed by a soap making machine during production.

Describing the death of the late factory worker as sad and regrettable, the company, in a statement signed by its Human Resources Manager, Aliyu Jubril, made available to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday, condoled family and friends of the deceased.

The statement read that it would “continue to engage with the family.

“This is an accident that is highly regretted and the company is sad. Although nothing can replace a life, Henkel has an insurance package for all its staff, including the casual workers.

“It will be responsible for the burial expenses for the deceased. It is also offering compensation to ameliorate the loss of Richard. While the compensation cannot replace human life, it will help to ameliorate the suffering of the family.”

It appealed to the Ministry of Labour in Oyo State to reconsider its decision to shut down the factory, noting that sealing it up would trigger a round of hunger for members of staff of the company.

It urged the police to expedite action on its investigation into the incident as a prolonged closure of the factory could have an adverse effect on the company and the survival of its staff.

“We understand that there may be queries from concerned stakeholders on the tragic incident. Please be rest assured that further information will be shared once available,” it said.
