President Muhammadu Buhari has sent his congratulations to Olumide Akpata, the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following his victory at the polls.
The President tweeted his felicitation on his personal Twitter handle on Saturday, August 1. President Buhari, who described the NBA as “a crucial stakeholder” in Nigeria’s democracy, wished Akpata all the best.
The new NBA president, Olumide Akpata, polled 9,891 votes which represented 54.8% of the total votes cast at the election.
Akpata was declared winner of the NBA presidential contest by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA), Chief Tawo Tawo (SAN). He defeated the other two contenders for the post, namely; Dr Babatunde Ajibade (SAN), and Mr Dele Adesina (SAN).
According to reports, Akpata is the first president of the association to emerge from the outer bar in 30 years.
