The Death of the COAS A Loss To Our Nation and His Family – Archibong Esq.

It is with great sadness and a deep sense of sorrow, that I received the news of the demise of Nigeria’s recently appointed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, in a tragic air accident involving the Nigerian Airforce in Kaduna State. Our nation also lost other serving senior officers of the armed forces, including the crew of the ill-fated aircraft in this unfortunate accident. I join the rest of the country in mourning this tragic loss, especially at a time when the nation is faced with unprecedented security threats on multiple fronts across the country. This accident follows the crash of a Nigerian air force plane, three months ago just outside Abuja airport, which killed seven people who were on board and the crash of a Nigerian Airforce Fighter Jet a few weeks ago which also killed two fighter pilots.

My thoughts and prayers go out especially to the families, friends, and associates of the departed, who shall be without a dear father, brother, friend, colleague, and confidant. I also condole with the armed forces and the Government of the Federation and ask that everything should be done to ensure a thorough investigation to unravel the cause of these accidents. The reliability, integrity and safety of our military and aviation assets are of paramount importance, considering its critical role in the battle against insecurity, therefore every step should be taken to ensure that these frequent air crashes and the attendant loss of lives be brought to an immediate end. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

God bless Nigeria.
