An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been killed and three others injured by unknown gunmen in the Igbomotoru community, Bayelsa State.
SaharaReporters gathered from sources that the attack took place while the officers were returning from a clampdown operation on Friday.
Confirming the report to SaharaReporters on Friday afternoon, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale said the incident is true, but he has yet to have comprehensive details about it.
“I’m aware but I have not received a comprehensive report about the incident, I will call you when I have a detailed report,” the spokesperson said.

Igbomotoru in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area is a riverine community with a history of militant activity.
In March 2024, the military raided Igbomotoru after suspects linked to the killing of 17 soldiers in Delta State’s Okuama community were traced there.
